If there's one thing today's market tumult should tell us it's that we can't afford to hold an election and get a new President. No sirree... mid-stream is no time to switch horses.
See I've been dreading the coming election and the nomination of a new President for some time, but I couldn't quite put my finger on why, until today. The current political situation is just too perfect to give up in the name of a 'consitutional mandate'
Consider: Have we ever had a lamer-duck, more impotent President than the one we have now? Sure, we've had unpopular Presidents. And we've had Presidents in the final months of their last term. But Bush is a combination of both -- he's beyond irrelevant. While the financial system was in full-throttle meltdown mode this morning, it didn't even occur to me that President Bush might have something to say. And then when he did finally speak, it was totally obvious that he was just going through the motions. His heart wasn't in it at all. He seemed bored. CNBC covered him for about two minutes and then cut away from him mid-sentance.
But that's great! I'd be a helluva a lot more freaked out by a fresh-faced, energetic President Obama, using this moment as a platform to push for sweeping changes. Or jeez, the thought of Maverick gittin' tough with Wall St. on a day like this should make any reasonable person reach for the dull razor.
Readers know my view that the government which governs least governs best. Right now there's no harmony at all in Washington. The Democrats would never go along with a Bush plan, and the Republicans in Congress won't expend the political capital to side with the President.
At least under a President McCain, we'll likely have gridlock, so that would probably be the next best thing. The worst would probably be a popular Obama president, with full support from Democrats, and weak opposition from Republicans. Again though, neither situation could be as ineffective and gridlock'd as we have now.
There are two issues I see
One is the constitution. At least under the current scenario, Bush can't stay on another four years. But in an emergency (which is what we have now), I'm sure Congress and the courts could suspend the coming election for four years. Consider: The original constitution didn't say anything about term limiting Presidents, so perhaps you could make an argument that now is the time for the constitutions to return to its roots.
The other problem is that Bush is tired. I doubt he'd want to serve another four years. But if he were a true patriot, and I believe he is, he might be made to recognize the necessity here. Just four more years.... surely he can stay on.
So can we do it?
Yes!
With a popular, bi-partisan uprising of people who don't want to see a new President, we can stop the election now! It is, after all, our country. If we don't want a new President, why should one be foisted on us. Anyway, we can strategize on how to do this later, but for now, just join the movement.
I've got a better idea. Three words: President Zaphod Beeblebrox.

Now we have more freedom to say our opinions. We have rights to express our emotions so many people like Bush but on the other hand there are many people who don’t like his way of working or policies. I think leader should have to understand the feelings of people and they should give respect to them.
