A smart post over at MetalMiner:
I really enjoy when our HVAC repair guy comes to pay a visit (not because I enjoy sweltering in 90 degree heat mind you when the AC isn’t working) but when you talk to someone in the trades who really knows their business and who happens to recognize some interesting trends. My first question, “have you seen any copper thefts in Chicago?” His answer did not surprise me, “more than I have ever seen since I have been in this business.” The copper line set is quite valuable and he’s seen more than a few stolen just this season. But then we got onto that exciting topic of plumbing. I asked him if he felt any of the alternative products out there would begin to eat into copper’s market share. And he said, “I have no doubt that PEX will make a huge dent in copper’s market share within the plumbing world.”
Pex is a polyethylene-based alternative to traditional piping, apparently.
Anyway, that's interesting, but it also speaks to something else. It's too bad more people aren't blogging their trade, so we could really start to harvest and glean more of this knowledge. Right now, there are plenty of people blogging the industries they work in and tech and media, and that's great. It's a great education. But we need more HVAC bloggers. And cattle bloggers. And aggregates bloggers. And fishboat captain bloggers. If you know of any good ones, pass 'em on.

I wonder if that is like the plastic water line I had that burst and had to replace with copper?

I agree, my inlaws' plumber just did their place in PEX tubing, running off a giant manifold. I knew nothing about the stuff until I got to talking with him about it, but he said it was a no-brainer; significantly cheaper than copper and flexible so he could run it through existing walls. He said it's huge in Europe already and has nowhere to go but up in the states.
I've found good trades info in many chat boards, but not so much on blogs; I suspect that tradespeople make good use of the internet when they want to (a) ask a question or (b) get some good karma by answering a question but aren't as motivated to self-broadcast the way other bloggers are. A tradesperson might well ask themselves what the benefit of broadcasting their knowledge and giving away some of their value. Sharing with customers or colleagues in person is fine because you'll get something back from the exchange, but why do it anonymously?
Felix Salmon has been pretty eloquent about the value that commenters can give back, but it's not an obvious case.

There are actually a bunch of sites for asking auto questions and other "trade" oriented info and in my opinion this is where some of the sites like About do a good job.

Durability is another factor that every homebuilder desires to have in their piping system. This is what they can expect to get in the PEX is PEX tubing system. Basically PEX is a polyethylene piping system that is characterized by cross links.

Carrying excessively massive breasts can make any woman self conscious and uncomfortable as a result of the stares and unwanted attention from other men and women SUPER 100MM.

HVAC bloggers indeed contribute a lot on the marketing and technical aspect of distributing these products and services. It as to be utilized well but proper ethics must be observed.
