I'm not sure where I stand re: political pressure on China during the Olympics. But I do know that this is probably the least compelling form of diplomacy you can engage in:
IOC president Jacques Rogge said Monday he is engaged in "silent diplomacy" with China on Tibet and other human rights issues in advance of the Beijing Olympics.
Rogge went on to tell ESPN that the IOC is not a political organization, so this is not their domain. I used to think of the IOC as a peace org. actually, but fair enough.
