I can't help but think that people hoping for a severe recession so that the city gets more affordable will be sorely disappointed by how things turn out. Such folks are discussed in the NYT from this Sunday, and there was also a New York Mag cover story from a few weeks ago discussing the same phenomenon.
It's not totally ridiculous, if you're a renter, to want the price of condos to come down. But to think that your quality of life will improve if only thousands of the highest-paid jobs in the city could be destroyed (banking jobs, natch)... probably a tad naive.
