Not Surprised About Acai; Revisiting Antioxidants

A long time ago, I wrote a post about what I called the antioxidant arms race, the tendency for a new fruit or berry to emerge every few years that claimed to obliterate the last one in terms of antioxidant density. One of the ones I mentioned at the time: the Brazilian berry açaí. I haven't exaclty followed the anti-oxidant market since then, so does anyone know what the hot berry today is? I have no idea.

I was reminded when I saw "Direct Marketer MonaVie Receives Substantial Growth Capital From TSG Consumer Partners":

-TSG Consumer Partners, the leading provider of growth capital for       branded consumer companies, has made a significant investment in       MonaVie, the leading creator of the premier açai       blend nutritional beverage category, for a small, minority equity       interest in the company.

Funny that the maker of some healthy berry drink would describe themselves firstly as a direct-marketing firm. Meanwhile, this site, from a rival, says MonaVie is a based on an MLM scheme.

Not surprising at all, as this seems to be de rigeur in the anti-oxidant arms race. If I recall, wasn't this model what fueled the pycnogenol boomlet way back when?
