Best merger, no doubt, was Jack Kennedy and Marilyn Monroe.
Second best might have been GM absorbing Chevrolet, Oldsmobile, Cadillac, et al.

chery does not at all sound like chevy in Chinese. In fact, no one in China calls chevy 'chevy' it is a three syllable phrase for chevrolet that roughly translates to 'snow fortune coming' and sounds like 'shufulai'. while 'chery' in chinese sounds like 'chee ray'.
