Best Mergers Of All Time
Lists of the worst mergers of all time are pretty common, and usually, AOL-TWX is somewhere near the top. Sprint-Nextel would probably be included as well. Conversely, it's not hard to think of some of the best acquisitions of all time. News Corp. buying MySpace for half-a-billion was pretty solid. EMC's purchase of VMware was rather on point. There are definitely some better ones, but those were just a couple recent examples to show that good acquisitions are common.
But what about good mergers? Deals that were pitched, more or less, as mergers of equals. Can we put together a list of the top 10. If you look around the internet, it doesn't look like anyone has made this list yet, and the reason is that it's pretty hard to figure out what would be on it.
So if you have an idea, put 'em in the comments, and we'll try collaboratively to come up with the definitive list of the best mergers of all time.
its early to say but RIG-GSF could end up being there.

Nvidia buying 3dfx.
AMD/ATI merger is probably about as dumb as the HP/Compaq. Though in the event that Intel bluescreens tonight, they might come out on top (unlikely).

I would claim the MySQL purchase will become one of the better deals of all time. Also, HP and Compaq seems to be working out well.

It wasn't a merger of equals, but I think IAC's acquisition of Ask Jeeves was probably the best thing that could of happened to both companies. IAC got a valuable search portal and Ask Jeeves got access to the deep pockets that they needed to reshape the brand. I'm not sure how much value has been created since the merger, but I bet that IAC ends up making a small fortune off of the acquisition.
