I have a Google News alert set up for the term "Weather Channel" because the network is known to be on the auction block, and I want to be the first (along with 100,000 others) to know when a sale goes through. In the meantime, I get a lot of alerts for Weather Channel-related stuff that's totally useless noise. But if it weren't for Google News, how would you ever come across something like this, a rant from the student newspaper at Mississippi State University called Weather Channel predicts nonsense:
It's about time someone "outted" the Weather Channel as entertainment and not serious informational programming as it likes to suggest. With many friends in the Broadcast Meteorology major, a continued lifelong interest in meteorology and a wealth of exposure to the field, I speak on whatever credibility I may have accumulated to tell you today that the Weather Channel - and its Web site weather.com - is not to be trusted.
To begin, its weather predictions are mediocre at best. The corporation has apparently found it safer to suggest mild temperatures and downgrade the significance of storm systems than to tell the truth.
Fair enough, but then:
Personal gain seems to have overcome citizens' safety for the network.
Then there's the company's obsession with sensationalizing weather events and possible situations in order to boost ratings.
First of all, I like the idea of attacking the credibility of the Weather Channel, regardless of the actual charges, cause it's amusing. Too bad the weather blogosphere is inchoate, cause you rarely hear charges of the weather "MSM" and its various biases. Beyond that, it's contradictory to suggest that the Weather Channel simultaneously plays down the seriousness of the weather, while also sensationalizing it for ratings, but whatever.
On a road trip, I spent the night in an Amarillo motel. In the parking lot I saw a Mississippi State trailer and van. I asked one of the guys what they were doing in the Texas Panhandle. He smiled and said "We're storm chasers!"

There is a concerted effort by all of the weather community to inhance the the severity of hurricanes. I suspect the reason to be there global warming agenda. All of the weather information sources are controled, maned, and readily promote global warming as part of there political agenda. The people with this agenda want the world to believe hurricanes are more intense, and more frequent so they now put a name to every popcorn cloud that forms any where in the world. None of the hurricane wind speeds that are shown on the weather channel, nooa, or the hurricane center can be confirmed by weather stations on the ground where the hurricane actually moves across. During Hurricane Edward which recently hit northern mexico and south texas presumably had sustaned wind speed of 95 according to all the weather services. The truth on the ground a gust of 76 mph was reported. One gust of wind that reached hurricane force does not make a hurricane. Edward was nothing more than a glorafied tropical storm. All sources say Gustav made landfall with 110mph sustained wind. I defy anyone to provide a link to information that shows a 110mph sustained wind anywhere in lousiana with the landfall of Gustav. I saw one report of a estimated 90mph sustaned wind which is a cat 1. Of course jum cantory or stephany abrams both experienced the eye wall of Gustav but did not report the wind speed where they were,if they had they would risk exposing the truth. I mean Come On a weather reporter on an assingment like that and no hard on the ground wind speed report, PLEASE!!
A lot of people say that this is the age of information. I say it certainly is but in reality its more the age of misinformation. People are so willing to blindly believe anything they are told and never question it even when the truth is staring them right in the face.
Myself I want proof of what I am being told.

There are a few more "entertaining" channels on roku than most people are aware of because they are not in the channel store and are not public. they are in private beta testing. go into the roku forums and you will be able to find the code to access NBC, CBS, HBO, PBS, FOX, CNN and lots more.

The joy of the bright flame is probably ignited by a spark accidents. Life on the road from time to time emit
fragrant flowers, but also by the accidental falling out of the natural growth of the seeds.
