So everyone's weighing in on this whole Gizmodo thing, where one of their bloggers made some mischief during CES involving a device that could turn off TVs. The prank was pretty dumb and not really very funny, but life goes on. Part of the reason folks are freaking out is because of fear that it gives blogs a bad name. To them I say: 2004 is calling, it wants its "are blogs journalism?" debate back. That ship has sailed a long time ago. I don't think any tech convention could credibly stop letting bloggers in over a prank. The people who pay enormous bucks to present at these events would flip out if the top gadget blogs couldn't cover a big gadget event.
Evidently, the Gawker Media view is that this whole brouhaha isn't such a big deal, because CES sucks. Real compelling argument there. A better response to all the scolds would've just been to say "shut up and mind your own business".
