I'm Going to Jackson (Heights)

Not wanting to settle for a typical weekend brunch, I finally trudged myself up to Jackson Heights (Queens) for some Indian food at the Tyler Cowen-approved Jackson Diner (it's really not that much of a trudge to get there by the way). Anyway, the food was very good, though there's some excellent Indian food at some small dives in Curry Hill, which would give this place adequate competition. Perhaps that's blasphemy.

Anyway, the real highlight of the day was not the restaurant, but the trip to Patel Brothers, the big Indian grocery store there. A while back Jenny 8. Lee wrote about frozen Indo-Chinese microwavable dishes that they had there made by a company called Chings Secret. You can call microwavable dishes unclassy and that's fine. But for $2.99, to get a dish with a similar flavor composition as what you can get at Chinese Mirch, then that's pretty awesome. So if you're in the area, you should definitely stock up.

Also, not surprisingly, lots of gold jewelry stores up there.
