Just curious: has anyone who has ever spent time in downtown Austin been able to connect via the muni-WiFi system set up by Cisco? Onstensibly it's here. I can even see COA_Mesh listed among my available networks. But in all the time I've spent here, it's never worked. What gives?
Do other muni-WiFi systems work any better, or is this pretty much par for the course.
I never got that thing to work, and generally relied on my favorite travel ISP, "linksys".

I've never been able to connect to the mu-fi. I end up just sticking to places with their own wi-fi.

In Denver, the Downtown Partnership (sort of a mini-chamber of commerce for downtown business) launched free wi-fi service along the 16th street mall (a pedestrian block of stores ~ 15 blocks long). This was launched to high fanfare a couple of years ago. Recently wanting to get on the interweb with my iPhone, I tried to access it. Come to find out that the great ramp to the web is now a toll road. Not free any longer. I wonder if the Austin web is the same way. You need to get an account or pay-per-use...
