As a rule, I never go to bands' websites. Without fail, they're always annoying. There's obviously some claque of web designers that thinks if I want to check out what's going on with Frank Black or Juvenile, then it must mean I want to sit through 60 seconds of flash animation first. The worst is when you have to wait through a countdown "20,19,18..." before animation even loads. It's as if it's somehow okay to violate the 8-second rule if have a timer.
Anyway, I had forgotten that bands even had websites until I saw this Reuters piece about bands doing more with interactivity:
Indie rock band Arcade Fire recently unveiled the first video for a song from its sophomore album, "Neon Bible." Set to the record's title track, the clip -- which launched on the Internet in early October -- allows users to control the movement of images by mousing and clicking.
The "interactive video" appeared after several weeks of cryptic missives from the band, urging fans to stay tuned to the URL beonlineb.com (an anagram for "Neon Bible").
Featuring shots of singer Win Butler's head and hands on a black background, the clip is among the first of its kind, possibly paving the way for the proliferation of more individualized music videos in the near future.
I thought I'd suspend my momentary distaste for Arcade Fire overhype and check out the above site. After all, it'd probably been two years since the last time I checked out a band's site -- maybe they'd gotten better with better browsers/wider bandwidth.
Nope. The above Arcade Fire site counts to 100 (!) before starting the vaguely interactive video. You can check it out if you want -- just make sure you have 100 seconds to spare.
Meanwhile, I'll continue to check out the proliferation of cool music sites out there (my latest fixationa are Hypemachine and Last.fm). And if I actually want to learn something about a given band, I'll just go to Wikipedia.
Thank you for ur good work..pls continue
