By now you know the arguments about what's going on in the movie industry: They make too many sequels, popcorn costs too much at the theater, the writing is bad, they're getting creamed by the internet, people want to stay at home and watch DVDs on HD with surround sound. The industry slump is a statistical fluke that doesn't tell us anything.
One thing I've read, several times recently, is that people are so rude at the theater that it ruins going out to see a movie. But am I the only who likes it when someone in the audience tosses out relationship advice to a character "You better leaver her!". And I loved the fact that during King Kong, someone in the audience yelled "Oh no he di'n't!!" when one of the dinosaurs attacked the gorilla. Admittedly, I can be a movie-talker, sometimes, so perhaps I'm just appreciative of someone being more disruptive than myself.
On a related note, here's an LA times article on why domestic box-office receipts have become a less and less important measure of industry health.
Let me know where you go to the movies. I'd hate for you to be one of the people who gets my dirty looks!
