Banking Podcasts
I'm not often one to say that companies "don't get it" but sometimes they just don't:
UMB Financial Corp., a Kansas City bank, announced on Tuesday [Press Release] that in an effort to reach out to a younger crowd they are launching podcasts which will be available on the bank’s website as well as on iTunes. The podcasts will “offer listeners a chance to learn how best to manage their money at their convenience.”
The idea that the "younger crowd" will want to listen to podcasts about money management, just because it's a podcast and available on iTunes is utterly clueless. This is the same mentality as when every staid organization, in the 90's, tried to appeal to kids by producing a "rap song" about what they do.
For your weekend listening pleasure here's the FEMA (yes, that FEMA) for Kids Kidz Rap.
As lame as this stuff is, at least it's not particularly harmful.
I subscribe to American Banker and the press release for the podcasts was placed on the front page. I got a big chuckle out of it. They definitely don't get it.
Lets put 3 podcasts on line for young people to download into their new hi tech ipods the secrets of banking and money management.
