Two interesting things struck me about the announcement of Apple's (NASD: AAPL) Video iPod. First of all, this could do for TV what the regular iPod did for music--finally get the networks to embrace downloadable individual TV shows. The fact that shows will be salable through iTunes seems like a bigger deal, to me, then the fact that they're watchable on a 3.5" screen. Second, whatever one says about Apple, the company or their stock, they're impressively focused on innovation and bringing new products to market, quickly. It's always tough to understand why companies are so slow to develop products which aren't even technically hard. Why no WiFi phone yet? Or a phone with a 5 Megapixel camera like they have in Japan and Korea? The concept of creative destruction is alive and well at Apple as they maintain a brisk pace in developing and bringing new products to market.
I agree, the ability to purchase episodes of a TV show the day after they air is huge, plus the low price may cut down on the rampant piracy for the shows that exists now.
