I didn't think I had anything to add about the forthcoming Google Base, which seems to have the web in a hot-lathered tizzy. Nobody knows what it is, but people, seem to be guessing that it has something to do with putting a bunch more of your personal/business data on Google's servers.
It's tempting to ask: Why couldn't Microsoft do something like that? The easy answer is that nobody trusts Microsoft and they're unlikely to be successful asking customers to hand over more personal data.
The right answer is that MSN.com is such a disastrous pig's lunch of a website, that nobody would ever be able to find it, and if they could find it, they'd never remember how they get back there.
Google's elegant uncluttered design philosophy pays of big-time when they launch new products. Yahoo and Microsoft should take note of the practical benefits of this aesthetic decision.
