Folks, if you don't live in New York, then you can't comprehend the obsession that New Yorkers have with their apartments and condos. Things like broker's fees, rent-control, and zoning laws are more than casual cocktail conversations. Real Estate advertising, therefore, goes well beyond your average Re/Max ad. The front page to the Village Voice's rental listing features an attractive woman, dressed skimpily, holding a key. But that's tame. Sex appeal has given way to sex.
The picture on the left pictures, yes, a naked couple in a bed staring out the window of their Astor Place skyrise, comfortable knowing that their so high up that they don't even need drapes.
The picture on the right doesn't even require a semiotics degree to analyze, especially because it's accompanied by the following caption:
"Go ahead, be as loud as you want. But only if you live in Herald
Towers, where the walls are thick... life is more exciting in the
center of the city."
Indeed. I'd like to suggest that New York developers are becoming more and more desperate to move their inventory...but then again, perhaps New Yorkers just like this stuff.
