An Economic Pet Peeve

I can't stand it when a TV-talkinghead-pundit says something like "The market rallied today in hopes that Greenspan might not raise rates, which would be good for the economy".  If Greenspan didn't think raising rates were good for the economy he wouldn't do it.  This is not to say whethere he's right or wrong to raise them, just that he's not intenionally trying to stand athwart eocnomic progress.  That being said, it seems that the anti-rate hike crowd "Please, Alan, think of Katrina" will do anything to have one more month of cheap money.

And Mr. Bush, if you're reading The Stalwart for advice on who to get to replace "The Wise one": This country needs another Paul Volcker; someone who will keep raising rates until it hurts, applying some cold-turkey, shock therapy to help ween us off our cheap money addiction.  Alan Greenspan's methadone aided comedown just won't satisfy us and our insatiable search for the next fix.
